Which fabrics are best for traditional Indian dresses in the summer?

Wether your are looking for summer fabrics for your designer collection or for your own self, here is a quick guide for choosing breathable and comfortable summer fabrics. Materials that you will fall in love with.

  1. Cotton - Cotton breathes and lets the skin’s prespiration to evaporate. But thats not the only benefit. It is budget friendly, huge variety of material available both online and offline, making it easier for designer to visualise and complete their collection. Cotton comes in plain shades as well as printed hues. Jaipur cotton fabric is a super hit amongst women of all ages.
  2. Linen - Linen also breathe, but are expensive and are more easily available in plain shades.
  3. Rayon - Rayon is a manmade fibre, but a good quality rayon is made of cotton or bamboo pulp, making it breathable. You will get a lot of choices in colour and print and price wont break your bank (but of course not as purse friendly as cotton)
  4. MulMul or muslin - Once upon a time it was the sofftest cotton made on earth, so much so that a 6 meter saree made of mulmul would pass through a ring. It was even said that it was such a fine art that a 6 meter saris made by the finest karigars would fold into a match box (though I don’t know how true this is). It still is the most amazing cotton but its availability is a challenge. A lot of regular cotton fabrics is sold in name of mulmul. Be careful while picking one.
  5. Khadi - Completely handmade khadi is a beautiful option to make into comfortable summer wear dresses. Govt push to Khadi in last few years have improved its availability as well. Relatively budget friendly fabric, it is a great choice for your summer wear collection.
